Mézières
Mézières JEAN-CLAUDE MÉZIÈRES VALÉRIAN Les Armes vivantes (Vol. 14), Dargaud 1990 Original plate no. 7. Signed. India ink on paper 39.5 × 50.2 cm (15.55 × 19.76 in.) What is remarkable about the Valérian series is that it never loses sight of comedy. It is a work of science fiction that, unlike what we often see elsewhere, does not overdramatize the danger. It approaches space not as an oppressive horizon, but as a stage where our heroes play their parts, discovering peoples and worlds with curiosity and wonder. With his lively brushstrokes, Mézières depicts ships, landscapes, and characters with remarkable ease. What matters is the right line, the right emotion—as in the glances exchanged between Valérian and Laureline, happy to be reunited despite the twists and turns of their journey.
