**Mid-1943 Production Remington Rand Model 1911A1 Pistol in Pasteboard Shipping Box with Two Magazines

.45 ACP. 5" barrel. SN: 978882 (mfg. ca.1943). Du-Lite blue finish on frame and slide, barrel and small parts blued, checkered "no ring" Keyes Fiber grip panels. Single action tilting barrel Browning designed magazine fed semi-automatic pistol with dovetailed notch rear sight and blade front sight. Right side of frame is marked UNITED SATED PROPERTY/NO 978882 and M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY forward of the grip above the triggerguard and with a crisp {Ordnance Wheel} cartouche at the rear edge. Right side of slide is unmarked. Left side of slide is marked with the Type II two-line Remington address which reads REMINGTON RAND INC./SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A. just forward of the rear slide serrations. A crisp FJA (Frank J Atwood) inspection is present immediately below the slide stop and a P proof is present on the frame below the magazine release. A P is also present on the top of the slide, immediately forward of the rear sight index line. The blued High Standard barrel is appropriately marked HS on one side of the link lug and with a P on the opposite side. The pistol is accompanied by two S marked Scovill Manufacturing blued magazines, apparently unused and wrapped in brown wax paper. An old, well worn kraft box accompanies the pistol as well.

This mid-1943 production pistol probably dates to around July for procurement and is approaching the end of the Du-Lite Blue finish period with Parkerizing becoming the primary finish sometime in the 1,XXX,XXX to 1,018,XXX range. The metal was sandblasted so the finish was quite dull and often looked more like Parkerizing from a casual glance. The pistol retains a checkered slide stop, correct for this period, with serrated slide stops becoming prevalent in the 1,XXX,XXX range. A really lovely and crisp Remington Rand 1911A1 in outstanding condition made at the height of World War II.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Arms, Armor & Militaria Excellent, showing little if any use. Bore is bright and crisp with some old dried grease or oil in the grooves and would probably clean with a little effort. Frame and slide retain nearly all of their finish with some minor thinning and high edge wear, likely from storage and handling. Barrel hood with some minor wear to the blue from cycling, probably by hand, as the breech face shows essentially no wear. Mechanically functional when cycled by hand, but slightly sluggish due to old, dried Cosmoline on the slide and frame rails. Dried Cosmoline is also present in the tight recesses and the protected areas, in particular in the slide serrations. Grips are very fine, with a couple of minor scuff marks along their lower edges. Kraft box with moderate to heavy wear, some damage and oil staining. Magazines fine.
