Mid 20th C. Bill Freeman Landscape Painting - Autumnal

[ translate ]

William E. Freeman - also known as Bill Freeman (American, 1927-2012). Oil on canvas, ca. mid 20th century CE. A stunning landscape painting depicting an autumnal landscape with golden leaves shimmering on the trees, perhaps aspens, in the foreground and sunlit mountainsides in the distance. Freeman's painting possesses an almost ethereal quality thanks to his dreamy palette of mauve, peach, sky blue, sage, forest green, brilliant buttercup yellow, and sun-kissed orange hues as well as his masterful technique that demonstrates sophisticated palette knife work and free, expressive brushwork. Freeman presents us with an optimal view of this awe-inspiring mountain range from the land below, set in a lovely wooden frame. Size of painting: 35.25" W x 23.275" H (89.5 cm x 59.1 cm) Size of frame: 44.25" W x 32.25" H (112.4 cm x 81.9 cm)

Bill Freeman grew up in West Texas on a farm just outside of El Paso. Interestingly, he worked as a horse wrangler, fought forest fires for the U.S. Forest Service, and was a field researcher and guide for the Arizona Game and Fish Department for twelve years in Arizona, Wyoming, and New Mexico prior to becoming an artist. It was not until the age of 30 that Freeman decided to become an artist specializing in Western landscapes. Today he is considered a pioneer of Western art centered on such storied locales as Scottsdale, Arizona as well as Jackson Hole and Grand Tetons National Park, Wyoming.
