Folke Ohlsson was a born in Malmo Sweden in 1919 and died in Atherton California in 2003. Ohlsson studied at the School of the Gothenburg Society of Industrial Design before he began working for Swedish furniture and bedding manufacturer Dux in 1950. Folke Ohlsson won a Gold Medal at the 1951 Milan Triennale and was given the Good Design Award by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His furniture was one of the first exhibits featured at Stanfords art museum. Ohlssons pioneering knock-down concept revolutionized furniture production and transportation and lead to the birth of global companies such as IKEA today.
Founded in 1923 by Swedish chocolate maker Efraim Ljung the DUX furniture company began as a bed maker and then expanded to Scandinavian Modern furniture production in the early 1950's thanks in part to it's partnership with the now renowned designer Folke Ohlsson. DUX is still producing furniture in the US to this day and is owned and operated by the four grand children of Ljung.

Condition Details: This exquisite Model 541 writing desk designed by Folke Ohlsson for DUX is in 100% original vintage condition and has aged to perfection! The mix of solid and veneered walnut composition is in remarkably excellent shape showing only minor nicks and surface scratches (which can be seen in the detail photos provided) but showing no stains gouges or other damage whatsoever and the old-growth woodgrains are absolutely stunning in natural light.
The two drawers constructed of birch open and close with ease and measure (TOP) W - 12 x D - 16 x H 2.75 (BOTTOM) W - 12 x D - 16 x H - 10.5. The desk top surface is 28.5 with a knee clearance of 25.5.
This exceptional writing desk is highly functional structurally sound and ready for decades more of use.
