Mid Century Walter Von Nessen Brass Pharmacy Floor Lamp

DESCRIPTION: A Mid Century rare original Walter Von Nessen (German, 1889-1943) swing-arm pharmacy floor lamp. This is a swing-arm original classic floor lamp design in brass, with a pressed green glass shade. It is marked on the underbase with engraved hallmark "Nessen Lamps" and is numbered "953". Walter von Nessen founded Nessen Studios, Inc., in Manhattan Murray Hill, in 1927. There he designed and fabricated lighting. Von Nessen streamlined Art Deco designs quickly gained him favor among many leading architects, who commissioned him to create custom light fixtures for their clients. As one of the first lighting designers, Von Nessen efficient and streamlined lamps proved very influential to the development of interior design. Von Nessen work is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City and the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Museum, among other institutions.
