Midnight Garden by Dr Sally Bailey oil on panel 2024
My work acknowledges the traditions and past histories of painting but is not bound by a formal approach. This allegorical portrait stands as a love-letter to the complexities of human existence. Using the late eighteenth century motif of the "Lover's Eye", work explores the liminal space that exists between duty and desire, being and not-being, passion and pain. Dr Sally Bailey is a full-time painter/writer/researcher based in Birmingham. She completed her Fine Art MA in 2016, and her practice-led PhD at the Birmingham School of Art in 2021. 61cm 61cm Artwork Not Signed 2023
