Miguel Berrocal, La Totoche, Homage to Federico Fellini
Miguel Berrocal
La Totoche, Homage to Federico Fellini
1972
bronze
5.75 h × 9 w × 3.75 d in (15 × 23 × 10 cm)
The concept of multiples was central to Miguel Berrocal's artistic practice. Just as painters used printing techniques to reproduce graphic works, Berrocal sought to make his three-dimensional sculptures accessible to a broader audience using advanced casting technology. As a result, many of the artist's works were planned to be produced in large editions, however, given the complexity of the forms, full editions were often not completed.
Impressed signature and number to base ’Berrocal 732/2000’. This work is number 732 from the edition of 2000. Composed of thirteen elements, this work can be configured vertically or horizontally by pressing a button on the base. La Totoche (The Plump Lady) is an homage to Federico Fellini and was inspired by a character in Fellini’s 1973 film Amarcord. Sold with book containing instructions for assembly and certificate issued by Artcurial. Wright would like to thank the Berrocal foundation for their assistance in the cataloguing of this lot.
