Miguel Forteza
MIGUEL FORTEZA FORTEZA (Palma de Mallorca, 1881 - ?).
"Coastal scene with figures".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 38.5 x 46 cm; 52.5 x 60.5 cm (frame).
Belonging to the Generation of 1917 of the Majorcan school, Miguel Forteza was a mainly marine painter, centered in the Majorcan and Catalan landscape. He lived in Barcelona since 1913, after having studied Fine Arts in Palma de Mallorca. He followed the artistic guidelines of Lorenzo Cerdá and Ricardo Anckerman, and exhibited individually four times in Barcelona, once in Reus and once in Caldetas, achieving critical and public success. His style is marked by the light, which dominates his compositions and creates in the landscape agile games of light and shadows, of changing colors. His brushstroke, dense and impastoed but loose, blurred in the distance, gives his compositions a unique sensation of naturalism and instantaneity.
