A large-format mixed-media work on paper by the Czech artist Milan Chabera from 1987. The composition shows an abstracted, expressive portrait of a man in a palette of earth tones, including sienna, umber, and cream, contrasted with bold black accents. The work is characterised by a dynamic, gestural application of paint, combining watercolour and oil paints. In various areas of the image, impasto layers of paint are found alongside fine, scratching lines in graphite or charcoal, giving the face and upper body a fragmented structure. The work is hand-signed and dated in black pigment at the bottom right: M.Chabera ’87.
