Milas Prayer Rug
mid 19th century, 157 x 117 cm, South West Anatolia, Mugla
This Milas prayer rug with a small salmon field and a very wide border section appears more authentic than many comparative examples. This may be due to the mellow patinated colours, which include a conspicuous, subtle lilac, or to the size of the vibrantly drawn designs. The eight-pointed stars of the main border are particularly striking.
Condition
Pile in good condition. A small hole in the part of the upper left-hand corner. Cut sides, replaced selvedges. Both ends somewhat reduced.
