Miles Davis (American 1926-1991): 'White and Naked', acrylic on canvas signed 153cm x 92cm Notes: One of the most influential and prolific jazz musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis was also an established visual artist: “He said music is a painting you can hear and a painting is music that you can see.” – Robert Irving III, former musical director of Miles Davis’s band. This particular painting 'White and Naked' is featured in the book 'The Art of Miles Davis' by Scott Gutterman (deputy director of the Neue Galerie New York), as well as various exhibition booklets. This is also an excellent example of his typical style, being influenced by Kandinsky, Basquiat, Picasso and African tribal art. The exploration of human figures and faces also featured a great deal in his paintings, such as this work.
