Mini Sampler A Wheeler N Stonington CT

[ translate ]

A miniature American Needlework Sampler by Adaline Wheeler of North Stonington, Ct. The sampler dates c. 1824 (Adeline would have been 10 in 1824) and measures 6 ¼” x 7 ¾”. It is framed in a very nice gold frame (10 1/8” x 12”) and stitched to a dark matt. The sampler includes 4 complete alphabets, the numbers 1-5 and some random letters (initials?), etc. Although there is no date on the sampler, there is some genealogical information written on the back indicating that Adaline was born in 1824, married Welcome Clark Burdick and died in 1897 in Westerly, Rhode Island. (I have been able to corroborate most of this information.). The sampler is in very fine condition with no holes or tears, only very minimal, light staining, and virtually no missing stitches (a few in the stitched lines above and below her name). Finding a miniature sampler with good genealogy is a rare treat!
