Miniature Cypriot Terracotta Amphoriskos w/ Deer

Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Iron Age, Cypro-Archaic Phase, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A miniature wheel-thrown amphoriskos with a bulbous body and narrow neck with strap handle. The surface is ringed with a black-on-white motif of deer and ibex-like creatures with large horns. These animals, because of their antlers/horns, were associated with virility and power in the ancient Mediterranean. Size: 2.35" W x 3.1" H (6 cm x 7.9 cm)
