Miniature Egyptian 23K+ Gold Standing Isis

[ translate ]

Egyptian, Late Period, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A striking 23K+ gold figure of Isis (Greek name for the Egyptian goddess Aset or Eset), standing with arms at her sides and her body presenting an erect posture, wearing her characteristic crown of horns around a sun disk, with a Uraeus in front, and a sheath dress. The entire figure is modeled in the round, in repousse probably from a mould. Isis was daughter to Geb, god of the Earth, and Nut, goddess of the Sky, and wife of Osiris. Oftentimes shown as the mother of Horus, she is also known as a protector of children. In addition to being revered as the ideal mother and wife, Isis was revered as the patroness of magic and nature, a supporter of sinners, slaves, and artisans as well as a friend to rulers and the wealthy. A stunning piece of ancient Egyptian goldwork representing this honorable goddess. Size: 2.25" H (5.7 cm); 2.625" H (6.7 cm) on included custom stand. Gold quality: 98%, equivalent to 23K+; Unable to weigh, since attached to stand.

According to the University of Southern California West Semitic Research Project, "Isis, along with her husband and brother, Osiris, was most often associated with the funerary cult and the afterlife. Together with three other goddesses, she was thought to guard the internal organs of a deceased person at the time of judgment. Isis, Osiris, and Horus were especially worshipped at the city of Abydos, but reverence for all of them was widespread."
