Miniature Medieval Leaded Bronze Seated Male

[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Europe, Medieval Period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A leaded bronze bearded male figure with a majestic countenance, seated with his hands folded in his lap, one leg revealed from the parted drapery folds of his garment, turning his head toward the left - his visage presenting a serious expression with finely delineated naturalistic features - knitted brow, deep-set eyes, aquiline nose, and pursed lips - crowned by a combed back coiffure, with the locks of his long, flowing beard falling to his chest. Modeled in a rather expressive manner, more telling of the later Medieval period, the figure likely represents a religious figure or leader. Despite the petite scale of the statue, the figure's overall presence is quite mighty. One can just imagine how imposing his frame would be if he were to stand up! Size: 1.125" L x 1" W x 2.5" H (2.9 cm x 2.5 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: ex Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
