Beautiful pair of small lacquer panels with gold background lacquered in relief in the Shibayama inlay technique in mother of pearl, coral, turtle, horn and ivory. A piece of extraordinary refinement both for the lacquer decoration and for the inlay. Mounted on a wooden frame from a later period with a paper sticker on the back on a nashiji background. Ebisu and Daikokuten, two of the most important figures among the seven gods of fortune, Ebisu is depicted in the guise of a bearded and plump fisherman, always smiling. He wears formal court clothes or field or fisherman clothes, holds a fishing rod in his right hand and a large bream (tai) in the left, a symbol of luck. In Japan, sea bream is the best fish, and must never be missing during demonstrations and holidays. Daikokuten God of wealth or family, he is one of the Seven most popular deities. It has the appearance of a smiling and robust man, wearing a flat black headdress.
