Unusual and refined table divider made entirely from ivory with hiramaki-e lacquer decorations and shibayama inlay appliques in mother of pearl, tortoise shell and coral with naturalistic patterns depicting a Manchurian crane in flight. On the opposite side is an eagle and a Manchurian crane. Two stylised bakus (mythological animals) hold the Tama (a sacred Buddhist jewel) between their jaws on the sides of the panel and complete the work. Signed Tokosai in gold lacquer.
