Unsigned, stamped "MINOR WHITE/72 NORTH UNION ST./ROCHESTER 7, N.Y." in blue ink on the verso at center. Gelatin silver print, image size 8 3/16 x 6 3/16 in., unmatted, unframed. Condition: Good.

N.B. A medical doctor by training, James Sibley Watson was also a filmmaker and co-owner and editor of the modernist literary magazine The Dial. His mother founded the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester and the Hochstein School of Music and Dance. Active supporters of the arts, Watson and his wife Hildegarde held an exhibition of paintings and sculpture in their Rochester home. Minor White, who lived in the city from 1953 to 1965, photographed the installation, including an Elie Nadelman sculpture, and additional interior views.
