Minton Renaissance Style Turquoise-Fluted Pseudo-Snake Handled Oviform Vase

In the Italian maiolica mannerist style, painted with alternate vertical panels of classical figures and grotesques, the handles formed as coiled snake-like spirals with female mask terminals, on a circular foot. Height 11 1/4 inches.

Note:
Alfred George Stevens (British, 1817-1875) was a sculptor and member of the Thorwaldsen studio in Rome. Famed for the Wellington monument in St. Paul's cathedral, Stevens was associated with Minton circa 1859-1861 and is principally known for designing majolica vases and wares in the Renaissance style.
