Mission Style Oak Student Desk

Mission style student desk or library table constructed of quarter-sawn oak with a medium brown finish. The rectangular top sits over a fretwork-style apron. The desk features vertical spindle sides supporting two semi-circular lower shelves for book storage. The four legs terminate in slightly flared block feet, and the assembly is reinforced by an arched cross-stretcher featuring a central carved foliate medallion. The corners are adorned with wrap-around hand-hammered style brass or copper-alloy plates with a trifid foliate design, secured with pyramid-head tacks. Unsigned. 28 1/2" H x 30 1/2" W x 21" D.

Condition Report:
The tabletop exhibits a longitudinal separation crack running nearly the full width of the surface. Minor surface scratches and water rings are visible on the top. The decorative metal corner plates show heavy oxidation and patina. Wear to the finish is present on the leading edges of the lower side shelves. Minor scuffs and nicks consistent with age and use are visible on the legs and spindles. One spindle is loose within the frame.
