Map of Central America and the Caribbean Sea with adjoining coasts. "Cartographically the map draws on the extremely rare chart by Hessel Gerritsz, c. 1631... with the exception of Blaeu's addition of the west coast of Central America (&) the naming of VIRGINIA" (Burden). "The coastline from Texas to North Carolina is fairly accurately drawn and one can recognize Galvestone Bay, Cape Hatteras, and Chesapeake Bay" (Ermen). Together with map of New Spain. Both with Latin text on verso. - Contemp. col. (maps in outline). Some browning and staining, heavier to 2nd map; 2nd map with oxidation to green col. and abrasion at right with small loss of image.
