Mixed Fabric Courthouse Steps Quilt
70 x 87 inches. A large handmade patchwork quilt constructed from a variety of cotton and cotton-blend scrap fabrics. The design is a variation of the Log Cabin or Courthouse Steps pattern, featuring a central vertical rectangle surrounded by concentric rectangular borders of varying widths. The patchwork is composed of multiple small fabric strips in a diverse array of patterns, including floral calicos, ginghams, stripes, polka dots, and geometric designs. Notable among the textiles is a novelty baseball-themed print featuring the Cincinnati Reds logo, specifically the word REDS in a red C-shape. The outer border is finished with a large-scale purple and blue paisley print fabric. The quilt is hand-quilted throughout in a simple vertical channel or grid pattern. The backing consists of a single-tone light blue or lilac fabric with a fine pinstripe. The batting, visible through areas of wear, is a white fibrous fill.
