Model 1852 U.S. Navy Presentation Sword,
Tiffany & Co., New York, New York, and Paul D. Luneschloss, Solingen, Germany.
Polished steel blade, the ricasso impressed "PDL" in a serrated reserve beside the letter "E", inserted through felt damper to join wire-wrapped shagreen grip, mounted with cast ormolu hilt in the form of a lily pad having one lobe relief-molded and pierced to depict a "U.S.N." banner on a field of oak leaves, continuing into scroll handle with dolphin terminal and thumbpiece, capped with a brass pommel depicting a bald eagle encircled by thirteen stars, the fluted blade etched and engraved on both sides with vertically arranged motifs, the side marked "PDL" below inscription "Warranted To Cut Wrought Iron" featuring an entwined rope and oak leaf garland, a ribbon banner inscribed "U.S.N.", an anchor, and a bald eagle perched on an artillery vehicle, the side inscribed "Tiffany New York" in a foliate reserve featuring naval trophy, oval comprised of thirteen stars, and an anchor superimposed with U.S. shield in a chamfered scroll border, with original molded leather scabbard with opening reinforced by two brass plates, both fitted with suspension rings on rope-molded brass lugs, and tapering to a brass chape with conforming sea serpent crest, including locking glazed presentation case with two custom wooden stands, including scabbard, lg. 34 1/2 in.
