Modest Morató Ojer was born in 1909 into a family of artisan jewelers. He learned the trade in his father's workshop and became independent to dedicate himself to enamel, being a passionate self-taught artist. He received teachings from Master Miquel Soldevila and dedicated himself to the research of ancient and modern, eastern and western techniques, applying his creativity in jewelry, ceilings, and other pieces, reviving and creating techniques such as marquetry with enamels.

He was a professor at the Massana School in Barcelona. He traveled to several countries investigating the enamel techniques of great masters. His deep knowledge of oriental arts and ancient enamels inclined him towards specializing in decorative pieces. He has been one of the main promoters of the renaissance of Enamel Art in Spain.
