Mola Textile of the Cuna (Kuna) Indians, Sun Blas Island, Panama
Ca. mid-20th century, multilayer geometric multicolor design design, framed with canvas backing, paper label attached at the back. Hand made by Kuna women, elaborately designed and painstakingly sewn cloth panels stitched in appliqué. Offered with original autographed exhibition poster "Mola Art of the Cuna Indians" Museum of Art Carnegie Museum, April 1 - May 16, 1976".
Provenance: Gus and Mimi Bizic "Mola Woman" lifetime private collection, Sewickley, PA, by descent, and then to current owner; acquired at Panama in 1970, The Kapp Kuna Expedition Collection.
