Moldavite is 14. 8 million years old and belongs to the tektites family. Tektites are natural, terrestrial rock glasses that condensed as an evaporation product from the impact of a large meteorite. The moldavites rained down in strewn fields on the Vltava River in what is now the Czech Republic.
Tourmalines usually crystallize with trigonal symmetry and often form well-developed, prismatic crystals with typical stripes on the prism surfaces, which in rare cases can be several meters long. With a Mohs hardness of 7 to 7. 5, the crystals are about as hard as quartz, and the streak color is white. Tourmalines are among the minerals with the most color variations. Depending on their composition, they are colorless to black or show shades of blue, violet, red, yellow, brown and green, although zones of different colors can occur on one crystal. The colors can change significantly, especially in their intensity, depending on the direction in which the light falls through the crystal (pleochroism) .
