Monogrammist CS, Romantic Mountain Landscape with Mountains and Lake, 19th Century

[ translate ]

A 19th-century romantic mountain panorama, executed in oil on canvas. The composition shows a vast alpine landscape with a central, tranquil mountain lake. In the background, imposing, snow-capped rock massifs rise in an atmospheric distant view, while the lakeshore in the foreground is characterised by detailed rock formations, conifers and a tree trunk protruding into the water on the left bank. The painting style is typically fine and glazed in the sky and mountain sections, contrasted by a more impasto application of paint in the depiction of the rocks and vegetation. The work is monogrammed in red paint at the lower right, consisting of the intertwined letters C and S. The canvas is stretched on a wooden stretcher with a vertical centre strut. On the reverse of the frame, there is a typewritten paper label in German at the top left with the text: Monogrammist CS, 19th C. Romantic mountain landscape with lakes and rocks masterfully and atmospherically painted DM 1,500.–. In addition, there are handwritten pencil notes on the wooden frame at the back: 220, 80 and 740. The painting is set in an opulent, magnificently designed wooden frame with gilt stucco elements, decorated with surrounding floral ornaments and volutes.
