Henri-Ernest Barbezat-Bôle was born in 1851 in Les Bayards, in the canton of Neuchâtel. He took the name ‘Barbezat-Bôle’ upon his marriage to Louise Amanda Bôle. He was the brother of Charles-Ami Barbezat-Baillot, the founder of Le Phare. The two firms were therefore linked by family ties, but were independent companies. The watch manufacture was founded in Le Locle around 1875 and specialised in high-quality, complicated pocket watches, in particular minute repeaters, grande sonneries, chronographs, chronometers and automatons.
