Monumental wooden bargueno chest covered with tortoiseshell, ebonised wood and bronze plaques. Italy. 18th century.
With bone and metal marquetry. Exceptional piece of furniture formed by two lateral parts which each have four drawers, flanked at the edges by spiral columns. The central body is elaborately decorated and has two groups of three columns in two heights, all resting and ending on corbels decorated with masks, flowers and angel heads. The centre lower part has a large gilded bronze relief depicting a man vanquishing a lion. The upper body ends with a cornice in the shape of a railing made of gilded bronze. In the centre, creating magnificent perspective, rises an architectural crest with a checkered floor, the same cornice railing leads towards the inside before reaching a cupola which seems to imitate the lower body. Crowned eagles, large vases of flowers, angels and a female figure top the upper part. _x000D_
