Moshe Macchias (1932-2006), Jewish Belgian Holocaust Survivor Painter, Violin, oil on canvas, signed and dated 1957, framed, light flaws to the frame, measurements: 60X80 cm. * Moshe Macchias (1932-2006), Jewish painter, Holocaust survivor, born in Antwerp, Belgium. Escaped with his mother to Vichy France where he was hidden with his sister by Righteous Among the Nations Katherine Lipner when she was 17: an emotional rescue story. After the war the went back to Belgium, spending the rest of his life there, left after him a wife and two girls living in Belgium to this day.
His painting teacher was the Belgian Madeleine Duguet (that a number of her pictures arrive from the same estate and are sold in this auction), together they formed in the 1950s the La Pléiade des Jeunes Arts Center, where artist of different fields gathered.
