Movement Passover Haggadah – Dror HaMachanot HaOlim, 1972 | The Struggle for Soviet Jewry
A non-traditional internal Passover Haggadah of 10 pages from the pioneering youth movement "Dror HaMachanot HaOlim, " for the year 1972.
This is an original copy of a stencil/photostat duplicated Haggadah that was never sold in stores but was produced by hand within the movement in very limited quantities.
The 10 pages of the Haggadah were duplicated and bound together with a single staple at the upper right corner (as was customary in movement branches and camps in order to distribute to members on the eve of the holiday).
The Struggle for Soviet Jewry: Despite its local and limited production, the Haggadah includes a highly impressive ideological graphic page dedicated to the struggle to open the gates of immigration from Russia (the "Iron Curtain"). On this page a powerful illustration was duplicated combining the hammer-and-sickle symbol alongside the Star of David and the iconic slogan "Let my people go."
Throughout the 10 pages, topical texts, songs, caricature-style illustrations, and satirical sections based on the traditional Haggadah are interwoven (including a special movement version of "Had Gadya"), reflecting the life of the youth and garin members in 1972.
A complete copy (10 pages), well-preserved in its original condition.
The interior pages are clean, and the printing and illustrations (produced using original duplication technique) are entirely clear.
On the title page and the last page, names written in pen appear — a feature highly characteristic of internal Haggadahs distributed personally to movement members and attesting to the item's authenticity.
Moderate yellowing to the front cover, light creasing to the margins of the pages and corners.
The fact that this is an internal stencil production of only 10 pages makes this item considerably more sought-after by collectors, as the number of surviving copies of such internal Haggadahs is significantly lower than those printed by regular commercial press.
