Muhammad Ali Extends a "Bout Agreement" Following Win Over Earnie Shavers
TDS
An extension letter for a previous "bout agreement" between Muhammad Ali and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum. 1p, measuring 8.5" x 11", New York, NY, October 10, 1977. Signed in the bottom right as "Muhammad Ali" and countersigned by his manager, Herbert Muhammad. This document comes just a week and a half after Ali's win over Earnie Shavers for the heavyweight championship on September 29th, and includes the delivery of a 3.5 million dollar letter of credit. Light pencil notation present in the upper right corner, but otherwise clean. Minor edge wear throughout. Overall, near fine.
Ali vs. Shavers marked the 10th title defense by Ali since regaining the championship in 1974. After going the distance in a very close match, Ali sent Shavers staggering back against the ropes and nearly to the canvas in the final round. Boxing experts have often regarded this to be one of the most impressive and brutal performances of his late boxing career.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
