Muonionalusta Meteorite Cube Iron, IVA Norrbottens, Sweden - (67° 48'N, 23° 6'E) Found: 1906 A work of art, all the more intriguing considering it is comprised of a top-quality meteorite, this interesting geometric form is a cube made of Muonionalusta material from Sweden. This specimen of the Iron, IVA, found in 1906, and possibly the oldest discovered meteorite on the Earth, is visually stunning with six fine faces which have been cut and etched to reveal a glorious Widmanstätten pattern. Measuring some 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) on each face, this is a relatively sizable cube that required a big piece of rough meteorite to allow for this sculpture to come to fruition. Such offerings are really popular, for obvious reasons, and not often seen, as the majority of meteorite specimens still remain in natural form. On top of the several evident characteristics that can easily be seen with this spectacular example, this cube weighs a massive 5.7 kilograms (12.5 pounds). A square of this quality is amazing enough, but one of this size as well does result in a piece that is truly exceptional and clearly an uncommon treasure worthy of a premium value. One corner is missing the point, while other slight imperfections can be seen on various faces, which all exhibit a pleasing silvery-grayish hue. The cubic form has a relatively nice luster highlighting the mesmerizing patterns. Measurements: 3.54 x 3.54 x 3.54 inches (9.00 x 9.00 x 9.00 cm), weighs 5,669 grams (12.5 pounds) HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
