Muonionalusta Meteorite End Cut Pair Iron, IVA Norrbottens, Sweden - (67° 48'N, 23° 6'E) Found: 1906 The end cut presentation provides a wonderful duality, showing both external and internal features of a meteorite, and this pair of two matched end cuts doubles that benefit. With a total weight for both pieces of just over 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds), this pairing consists of two obviously large and dramatic specimens of the iconic "Arctic Meteorite" that was found in Sweden in 1906, although Muonionalusta likely fell one million years ago and is thought to be the oldest meteorite on Earth dating to some 4.5 billion years ago. The fine octahedrite is an iconic Iron highly prized by serious collectors, and this "two-for-one" offering represents a fabulous way to own and display a rather substantial amount of the renowned IVA. Each end cut contains an etched window face, with an outstanding Widmanstätten pattern with an intense linear composition. The pieces are relatively deep, with the extraterrestrial rocky halves having exteriors of dark patina-rich skin that culminate into rounded points at the ends of the sculptural backs near the base. One half is slightly larger in mass than the other, but the pairing is simply striking as a couple, with vibrant metallic surfaces. Measurements: 4.11 x 3.64 x 2.79 inches (10.44 x 9.24 x 7.08 cm), weighs 4,026.1 grams in total HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
