(N) ATTRACTIVE GERMAN WORLD WAR 1 DWM MANUFACTURED MG-08 MAXIM MACHINE GUN WITH SLED MOUNT (FULLY

[ translate ]

This Maxim was originally manufactured by DWM in 1918, and visible numbers match with the exception of one of the brush caps on the spade handle (#21), barrel (#08/29), un-numbered lock, and the sideplate is of American manufacture (numbered “47420” to match the rest of the gun). Fusee cover is unnumbered and unmarked, which is correct for this vintage. No drain valve assembly at front of water jacket, and steam exhaust port has been fitted with a brass fitting capable of taking a Browning 1917A1 steam hose. Reproduction muzzle booster and muzzle flash shield present. Thumb pieces are not present on water fill cap. Desirable original sled mount (#3154) with reproduction top trunnion strap is included with this lot. Sled is missing the cover to the barrel retention box, and traverse lock and traverse lock stops. However, the frame of the traverse lock is present on the gun. The gun will sit fine on the sled for display and everything one needs to complete it can either be purchased or fabricated if need be. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FORM 2 REGISTRATION” as the manufacturer. “TEXAS ARMS” according to the consignor. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent matte gray refinish on all metal parts with repainted water jacket and sled. Wood spade handles are near excellent uncheckered replacements. Bore has shiny and bright rifling, lightly frosted in the grooves. Lock face is extremely fine. Gun mechanics are crisp and positive, and action moves smoothly when operated by hand. This is a full-auto-only machine gun. Sled mount elevation gear operates smoothly. The Maxim MG-08 is one of the most recognizable weapons of World War I, and remained in service throughout the Weimar era, and in a rear security role with the Germans through the end of World War II. In recent years, there have been very successful conversions of the MG-08 to fire 7.62 Russian ammunition. This is quite a nice ensemble, especially considering the sled mount included. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2024-05-019 Accessories: Sled mount Barrel Length: 28" Caliber/Bore: 8mm FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Form 2 Registration (Texas Arms) Model: MG-08 Serial Number: 47420
