LOT 1042

(N) EXCEPTIONALLY FINE CONDITION BERETTA MODEL 38A

[ translate ]

This Beretta Model 38A machine gun is an interesting piece. It was amnesty registered by conservative Republican icon Barry Goldwater, who ran for President against Lyndon Johnson in the 1964 presidential election. A copy of the original unredacted amnesty registration form is included with this lot. Visible numbers are matching on barrel shroud, receiver, bolt, and stock. No manufacturer’s markings on top receiver tube, and barely discernible change to the sheen of the metal indicates they were professionally removed. Even looking very closely, one cannot discern loss of metal normally associated with post-War alteration. Two original 40 round magazines are included with this lot. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent with partial refinish on top of receiver tube with some light scattered pitting, with a small area of grinding to the top of the shroud forward of the serial number and Italian crown proofmark. Other metal parts do not appear to be refinished. Charging handle block is a plum color indicating refinish. Unsanded original matching wood is magnificent, with handling marks and a small ding on right side near pistol grip, and a barely discernible 3” elliptical crack at wrist on right side starting just below the rear receiver cap. Stock is strong and completely serviceable, but this needed to be called out as this cataloger catalogs guns like I would like to be informed as if I were contemplating purchasing the gun. Magazines are fine, black refinished over light pitting. Bore near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt is also near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. The Beretta machine guns of World War II are righteously considered the best of their era. Accurate, controllable, durable, and reliable. Select fire guns with two triggers, one for full-auto, and the other for semi-auto fire. Any machine gun enthusiast who has fired a Beretta 38A would like to shoot one again. This specimen combines all the positive of this model with direct linkage to a Republican political icon. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2020-05-011 Accessories: Two magazines total Barrel Length: 12 - 1/2" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Para FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Beretta Model: 38A Serial Number: G8205
