(N) EXTREMELY SCARCE AND HIGHLY DESIRABLE HIGH CONDITION HARRINGTON AND RICHARDSON U.S. CONTRACT

Exceptional condition M-14 select-fire machine gun battle rifle manufactured by Harrington & Richardson during the early 1960s under contract for the United States military. The top of the receiver is stamped "U.S. RIFLE/ 7.62 MM M14/ H.&R. ARMS CO" above the serial number. Left side of buttstock has Department of Defense eagle under three stars cartouche within a square, with the underside of the wrist bearing an encircled "P" proof. "HRT" marked bolt assembly. Original “H-R” marked barrel, dated “9 61”. One original magazine and one green web sling is included with this lot. Wooden stock appears to be a contemporary replacement, as is hard plastic composite handguard. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FORM 2 REGISTRATION” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent matte blue refinish on metal of gun proper with more a a matte gray finish on buttstock metal furnishings. Tiny area of light pitting visible on left side of receiver with a small ding under the finish at the top of the receiver over the chamber. Stock is near mint, unoiled wood with only the slightest of handling marks. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is near excellent. This is a select-fire machine gun. An exceptional example of the U.S. military rifle designed to be a box magazine version of the M1 Garand, and also able to fulfill the role of the Browning automatic rifle in the late 1950s and into the 1960s.
