Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "C. le Feure Pin. / N. Pitau sculp. 1663.". Lower middle inscribed in the printing plate: "Benjaminus Priolus / Santo. Juliani. F. / Eques Venetus / Rerum Gallicarum Scriptor / florentissimus.".

Date: c. 1650

Description: The portrait of Benjamin Priolo shows the historian sitting at a desk. His head is turned towards the left edge of the picture. He is wearing a hat and a buttoned robe. In his right hand he is holding a quill pen with which he is writing on a sheet of paper. His left hand is resting on an upright book. An hourglass stands in front of the book as a reference to his profession. In the background, a curtain draped to one side provides a view of Priolo's library.

Condition: Good condition. The sheet is dust-stained and finger-stained with creases in the upper margin. The sheet has been trimmed approx. 2.5 cm laterally, approx. 4.3 cm at the top and approx. 5 cm at the bottom from the platemark. Brownish, dot-like discolouration in places.
