NAPOLEON 111 TABLE LINEN (10) - Linen, Silk - Late 19th century

[ translate ]

Table linen in pure linen with 9 matching serviettes. Of late the Napoleon 3 table linen is making a resurgence after decennia having been stored in the armoires when it lost its appeal and popularity. We have for the past 18 months received a variety of this particular table linen and each one appears to be just that little different. However this particular piece has to be the "Jewel in the Crown " and is absolutely magnificent in every aspect. It has been so superbly stored and maintained for all these years. The colours, red and gold are still as fresh as when it was woven. The table linen we have been told is silk with fine linen, whereas the napkins are pure linen. The initials G. P. are hand embroidered. Each one is just that slightly different and at the reverse some of the threads are still loose which proves that they were hand done. The main body has damask like posy's of roses whereas the red borders all have single roses. The gold bands are superbly done and offset the design beautifully. The 4 corners of the table linen shows the absolute superb woven techniques. We have taken many photos for you to look at. PLEASE NOTE; the lady owner informed me that there is a minute hole. However we cannot find it and looked everywhere .
