NINE PASHTUN METAL EMBROIDERED POUCHES AND PURSES, AFGHANISTAN, LATE 19TH CENTURY AND EARLIER

including two purses and seven pouches, the first purse heavIly embroidered in silver metal thread framed by duo-chrome silk braiding, metallic braiding and blue and white seed beads, the second purse of similar makeup but with additional mica and M-shaped closure on a deep pink silk, the third a small pouch consisting of mica, gold metal embroidery and polychrome edging, the fourth a rounded pouch of gold and polychrome embroidery on purple silk, with beading along the opening only, the fifth of gold metal embroidery with a central field of polychrome silk cross stitch on pink silk, with small blue and white fringe beading, the sixth of metal embroidery on green and purple silk, white beaded silk polychrome tassels, the seventh like the sixth but with a larger central field of purple and green silk, the eighth of purple silk with metal embroidery in a check format, no beads, with draw string consisting of metal thread and orange and fushia tassels, the ninth metallic embroidery on burgundy raw silk consisting of spiralled and geometric forms, buttons to the lower corners and silk tassels, the opening is framed by looped metal edging (9)
