A Bronze Monumental Figure of Ko'u (Xiang Yu) Lifting a Large Tripod Vessel
Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
Constructed in three separate sections, the legendary figure shown standing barefoot on a rock displaying his incredible strength and physical prowess, lifting aloft with one hand a large, three-legged, handled and reticulated koro (incense burner) and cover, carved in low relief around the body with prancing kirin, raised on a large, integral, lobed circular base carved with confronting dragons, signed with a seal on the inner side of one leg of the koro Oko Nishimura Unsho chuzo (Cast by Nishimura Unsho, Lake O [an old alternative name for Lake Shinji in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture]). Overall: 156.6cm x 50cm (61½in x 19 11/16in). (3).
