Yombe/Vili nkisi statuette (Kongo).
20th century.Height: 50 cm.Heavy, light-brown wood, cord, fabric, shell. A cowrie shell (Monetaria moneta) adorns the headdress, which is held in place by a dark cord. The eyebrows are shaped like tail feathers. The face is finely rendered: the ears, nose and full lips are delicately carved. The neck is powerful. The body is covered with dark seeds set in dark resin. It features a ventral mirror. The toenails are clearly defined.
