NORMAN JESSYE: (1945-2019) American opera singer. One of the most important female opera voices of the second half of the XXth century. Erwartung (Expectation) is a one-act monodrama in four scenes by Arnold Schonberg (1874-1951). Composed in 1909, it was not premiered until 1924 in Prague. The opera takes the unusual form of a monologue for solo soprano accompanied by a large orchestra.
