Thorvald Jørgensen (b. Århus 1867, d. Charlottenlund 1946)

A set of six high back mahogany chairs made for the royal banquet hall at the third Christiansborg Palace, carved with foliage, pierced spalts with KIng Christian X and Queen Alexandrine's crowned initials, curved drop-in seats and cabriole front legs. C. 1916. (6)

History: The third Christiansborg Palace was built during the period 1906–1928 – the protracted building process was due to political complications at the time. The royal banquet hall and its furniture were also designed by palace architect and royal buildings inspector Thorvald Jørgensen (1867–1946). The lower panels, door and a selection of the furniture was produced by master cabinetmaker A.L. Johannesen in polished mahogany from the steps salvaged from Dronningetrappen (The Queen’s Staircase) from the second Christiansborg Palace 1803–1884. Literature: 'De Kongelige Repræsentationslokaler på Christiansborg Slot', editing and text by building chief Flemming Frydendal and court and state inventory inspector Ole Priskorn, the royal banquet hall is reproduced on p. 17.
