NSU - Wankel-Spider Hardtop - 1966

NSU Wankel Spider with Hardtop The Wankel-Spider was the world's first production car with rotary engine, or Wankel engine. NSU has been experimenting with Wankel-patented rotary engines since the mid-fifties. The Wankel-Spider is a roadster version of the Sports-Prinz, aimed at the sportier driver. Aside from removing the top, the only exterior style difference was the two-piece grille that was added to the front. In order to accommodate the convertible top, it was necessary to manufacture new sheet metal over the rear engine compartment and behind the seats to place the folding canvas top. The water-cooled Wankel engine is located in the back. The Wankel-Spider was first shown at the 1963 Frankfurt Auto Show. Unfortunately, the production of this nice convertible did not last long. The production of the Wankel Spider was discontinued in 1967, a total of 2375 units were built. It is estimated that there are still approximately 150 driving copies. This Wankel-Spider was originally delivered new in Germany. The colour combination of this NSU is very elegant, the bodywork is painted in red. A wonderful contrast with the black with red imitation leather interior. This NSU, which is in an excellent condition, has been partly restored. The paintjob is still in a very good condition. The fittings of the sills, fenders, doors, bonnet and the trunk lid are good. The black convertible top looks good. The very rare hardtop completes the picture. During a test drive, the bonnet flew open. This caused damage to the bonnet, see the last two photos. If you as an NSU enthusiast are looking for a beautiful and well-driving Wankel-Spider, then this is the time to start enjoying this car. Nice for use as a 'daily driver', with minimal cosmetic imperfections, there is an emblem missing on the front left wing and there is a small damage on the driver's seat, as can also be seen in the detailed photos. You are welcome to view this car in our showroom and to take it for a test drive before you place a bid. This vehicle can be viewed and picked up in Oldemarkt, the Netherlands. The NSU has acquired wear and tear over the years, please see the photos.
