NWA 10441 Martian Meteorite Martian (shergottite) Northwest Africa Found: 2018 On rare occasions, meteors strike the planet Mars with enough force to throw pieces of the Red Planet into Space. Against all odds, some of those fragments travel through Space, eventually "impacting" our own planet. A Martian impact melt is most likely the result of a giant meteor crashing into Mars and melting Martian target rock into a new form, which, in itself, is remarkable! This gorgeous end cut specimen weighs a significant 54.3 grams with a mysterious face featuring an array of patterned dark patches against a granular greenish-grayish background. The rugged exterior is oily with a greenish-blackish hue. The duality of this domed example is both intriguing and magnificent. Overall Measurements: 2.04 x 1.33 x 0.88 inches (5.19 x 3.38 x 2.24 cm), weighs 54.3 grams [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
