NWA 12335 Martian Meteorite Martian (shergottite) Northwest Africa Found: 2018 The superlative nature and significance of this massive, 2.29 kilogram, Martian meteorite simply cannot be overstated. One of the largest Martian meteorites ever discovered, this truly exceptional Shergottite example is very similar in composition to the famous Shergotty Martian Meteorite for which the variety was named. Studied by a consortium of scientists, including the renowned Drs. Carl Agee and Anthony Irving, this stunning meteorite, from the planet Mars, is a beautiful as it is significant. This MAIN MASS weighs over 5 pounds and tells the story of the early geological history of the Red Planet. Fusion crust has mostly disintegrated, but abundant relict sections show flight markings - and direction. During the ablation phase, the meteorite was oriented to form a slight shield orientation with distinct flight ridge on the top and slight rollover edge on the bottom. Due to the angle of atmospheric entry, an unusual dual orientation feature is represented by a teardrop or bullet form, with a face and an elongated tail. This gigantic Martian meteorite is visually stunning and offers a sublime shape with superb coloration. The main rind has a dark greenish-black avocado hue, and the more exposed face of the amazing rock exhibits a lighter coloring ranging from brown to reddish-pink and consistent with a Red Planet origin. This represents the largest piece of NWA 12335 in existence and a considerable amount of the total of all Martian material on the Earth. The aesthetic beauty, pleasing hue, artistic shape and colossal size all combine to result in a singular museum quality offering that literally transcends time and (outer) space. Overall Measurements: 8.19 x 4.33 x 2.76 inches (20.80 x 11.00 x 7.00 cm), weighs 2.29 kilograms (5.14 pounds) [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
