NWA 13227 Martian Meteorite Slice Martian (shergottite) Northwest Africa (Morocco) Found: 2019 This visually stunning slice of a meteorite is a rather sizable slice of Planet Mars – a Martian piece classified as NWA 13227. The shergottite, found in Morocco, in 2019, offers a wonderful greenish hue consistent with gabbroic composition containing Olivine. Not much of this meteorite is found on Earth, and there are only some 300 meteorites from Mars anyway. Some dendritic shock veins crisscross the smooth surfaces of this meteorite slab, which measures well over 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) at the maximum dimension. Relatively thick and solid, this specimen weighs 83.5 grams and represents quite the impressive "rock" from the alien landscape of the Red Planet, like those that NASA's Viking Missions brought back for study. This is simply one big and beautiful piece of Mars. Measurements: 4.72 x 4.41 x 0.11 inches (12.00 x 11.19 x 0.29 cm), weighs 83.5 grams HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
