[ translate ]

NWA 1941 Meteorite Slice Ordinary Chondrite, L6 Northwest Africa Found: 2003 While the obvious turn of phrase may be a bit overused, this specimen is most definitely nothing ordinary about this Ordinary Chondrite. Weighing 325 grams and measuring nearly 10 inches (25 cm), the most notable aspect of this meteorite slice is its considerable size. Representing NWA 1941, this material classified as L6 has an overall dark coloration. This slab contains numerous metallic flecks over the polished surface, which looks somewhat like its own stellar scene. The abstract galaxy has an unusual bluish hue giving rise to the meteorite often being referred to as "Blue Galaxy" in the community. The highly irregular shape of the thin slice has an outline quite similar in appearance to a dinosaur footprint, of which there are several specimens in this sale, and further believed meteorites led to the demise of the dinosaurs. Minor indentation holes cover the smooth surface along with its mirror-like metallic inclusions. Measurements: 9.92 x 7.60 x 0.16 inches (25.20 x 19.30 x 0.40 cm), weighs 325.2 grams HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
