NWA 6963 Martian Meteorite Martian (Shergottite) South Morocco - (28°00.148'N, 11°07.895'W) Found: 2011 This specimen of meteorite weighs just shy of 28 grams and exhibits a wonderful mix of fusion crust and granular interior composition. An example of NWA 6963, indicative of its Martian origin, this represents the Shergottite variety and is one of only some 225 classified meteorites from Mars. This delightful piece has plenty of character, decent size and an impressive duality of its contrasting interior and exterior that are both featured prominently in this rock. The blackish-brown crust of this nearly one ounce of the Red Planet boasts an interior with hints of reddish coloration consistent with the vernacular name for the planet. Overall Measurements: 1.63 x 1.15 x 0.77 inches (4.14 x 2.92 x 1.95 cm), weighs 27.6 grams [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
